Luxottica Digital Factory: Bridging Technology and Architecture in Milan

Milan, renowned for its architectural prowess, welcomes a new addition to its industrial landscape with the transformation of Luxottica’s Digital Factory. Spearheaded by Park Associati, in collaboration with storagemilano, this project breathes new life into a former industrial site, marrying technological innovation with architectural excellence.

Preserving Identity, Embracing Change

At the heart of the Digital Factory project lies a commitment to quality, innovation, and architectural ingenuity. Drawing inspiration from Luxottica’s core principles, the intervention aims to preserve the site’s historical character while embracing contemporary needs and sustainability standards. Park Associati’s meticulous retrofitting retains the building’s original volumes and character, infusing it with modern elements both inside and out.

Reinventing Industrial Heritage

The intervention celebrates the essence of the original industrial building, once home to General Electric, by accentuating its inherent shapes and lines. Internal modifications prioritize safety and sustainability without compromising the integrity of the reinforced concrete truss design. The facade receives a contemporary makeover, featuring a striking glazed structure with bronzed metal pilasters that pay homage to the site’s industrial heritage.

Transparency and Innovation

A hallmark of the Digital Factory is its emphasis on transparency and indoor brightness. The full-height glazed facade floods the interior spaces with natural light, creating an inviting atmosphere conducive to creativity and collaboration. The showroom and commercial areas on the ground floor, along with the Digital Lab on the first floor, are meticulously designed to foster innovation and productivity.

Sustainability at its Core

In line with modern sustainability standards, the Digital Factory adheres to a LEED protocol, aiming for a “GOLD” class certification. From energy-efficient design elements to green leisure areas, every aspect of the intervention is crafted with sustainability in mind. By revitalizing the surrounding area, the project contributes to the social and urban fabric of Milan, transforming it into a vibrant hub of innovation and creativity.

The Luxottica Digital Factory stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of technology, architecture, and sustainability. By repurposing industrial heritage for contemporary needs, it not only revitalizes the urban landscape but also sets a new standard for architectural innovation in Milan.
