Exploring Nova Despensa Store: A Conceptual Retail Experience

Nova Despensa Store, a project by Solo Arquitetos, emerged from a collaborative effort spanning over two years with the clients. The concept was intriguing from the outset: a bulk store that diverges from conventional models, prioritizing a conscious consumption experience while maintaining product variety and quality.

Project Development

As the inaugural store of a new brand, the Nova Despensa project underwent meticulous planning and execution. It involved brand design, service design, space assessment, and property selection, culminating in the architectural realization. Throughout the process, the team navigated challenges, including adapting to evolving consumer needs during the pandemic. Collaborations with Touz.Co and product designer Max Kampa from VenturaLab were instrumental in refining the project’s vision and execution.

Custom Dispenser Solution

A key challenge was sourcing dispensers suitable for a bulk store. Recognizing market limitations, the team collaborated with Max Kampa to design custom dispensers that prioritize product visibility and accessibility. These bespoke dispensers, accompanied by integrated spoons, not only optimize space utilization but also contribute to the store’s unique identity.

Spatial Organization

The spatial layout of the store was carefully orchestrated to redefine the customer-retailer relationship. Departing from traditional linear pathways, the design centers around a central island, fostering an immersive and interactive shopping experience. Customers are encouraged to navigate freely around the island, engaging with products displayed both centrally and peripherally. The cabinetry height was meticulously planned to provide a clear overview of the space without overwhelming visitors, ensuring ease of navigation and assistance from staff.

Materiality and Identity

The store’s aesthetic is characterized by simplicity and warmth, with a predominantly white and light wood-toned palette accentuated by the brand’s signature color. This choice of materials creates a welcoming ambiance, evoking a sense of familiarity and comfort akin to home.

The culmination of these design elements is a retail space that transcends the traditional shopping experience, offering a harmonious blend of functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability. Nova Despensa Store redefines the concept of bulk shopping, providing customers with a curated and immersive environment that fosters mindful consumption.
