Revitalizing the Entryway: A Sub-$300 Front Door Makeover

Neighborly DIY: A Budget-Friendly Fall Front Door Transformation

As fall unfolds, many homeowners embark on front door facelifts to welcome the season with a touch of warmth. Madison Bess, a dedicated DIY enthusiast (@blushingbungalow), took on a special project during Community Month on Apartment Therapy, refreshing her neighbors Jacob and Elyse’s front entrance. The collaborative effort resulted in a charming revamp that not only embraced the autumn spirit with pumpkins but also introduced a new paint shade, all achieved on a budget of less than $300.

The Pre-Revamp Scene: A Cracked Cement Canvas and Faded Blue Door

Before Madison’s intervention, Jacob and Elyse’s front porch presented a lackluster picture with cracked cement and a fading blue door. Recognizing the potential of this crucial home introduction, Madison aimed to breathe new life into the space. The initial state failed to do justice to the beauty within the house.

Colorful Transformations: Behr’s Aspen Valley Takes the Stage

The key players in this transformation were paint and a keen eye for vintage-inspired details. Opting for Behr’s Aspen Valley, a gray-green hue, for the front door, Jacob and Elyse contributed their color preference to the project. Madison’s advice on the importance of sanding and priming before painting proved crucial, ensuring a lasting and vibrant finish. The vintage charm made its entrance with an $18 door knocker from Amazon, infusing character into the revamped entryway.

Adding Character: Details, Hardware, and Lighting

New hardware became a pivotal element in the makeover. Madison strategically incorporated a Moravian star-shaped light fixture, replacing the outdated flush-mount one. The vintage-inspired door knocker added a unique touch, aligning with Madison’s penchant for infusing each space with a hint of nostalgia.

Striped Stairs and Playful Design: A Power Wash and Paint Magic

Addressing the neglected stairs, Madison wielded a power washer to rejuvenate the front porch’s concrete canvas. Employing painter’s tape, she skillfully crafted white and tan stripes using Behr’s Ultra Pure White and Gravelstone concrete paint. The playful design added flair and detail to the entrance, creating a welcoming pathway to the renewed front door.

Finishing Touches: Target Finds, Mums, and Pumpkins

Completing the ensemble, Madison adorned the entryway with layered doormats from Target, vibrant mums, and the quintessential fall pumpkins. The harmonious blend of colors and textures brought the entire look together, leaving both Madison and her neighbors delighted with the transformative results. Madison reflects, “I love how all of the colors worked together in the end. I wouldn’t change a thing!”

This collaborative DIY project not only enhanced the curb appeal of Jacob and Elyse’s home but also exemplifies the spirit of community engagement during Community Month on Apartment Therapy.
