Project Overview
Cloud Kindergarten, nestled within Chengdu’s LuxeLakes vicinity adjacent to Cloud Park, stands as a beacon of innovative educational architecture. Designed by TEKTONN ARCHITECTS and led by architects Xiang Wang and Wenmu Tian, this futuristic edifice encompasses 16 kindergarten classrooms, seamlessly integrated into its technologically advanced structure.
Creating a Miniature City
Beyond meeting pedagogical requirements, the design of Cloud Kindergarten aimed to challenge conventional perceptions of early learning environments. Departing from the traditional imagery of bright colors and neatly organized activity units, the architects envisioned an interior layout resembling a miniature city and society. This innovative approach seeks to instill values of manners, proportion, friendship, and spatial perception in children from a young age.
Spatial Hierarchy and Ritual
Eschewing the typical entrance hall, Cloud Kindergarten embraces a sense of ritual and spatial hierarchy reminiscent of entering a park. A science fiction dome serves as a focal point, dividing the entrance into multiple functional zones while maintaining a scale conducive to children’s exploration. Spatial layers, including pocket parks, corner plazas, and sports facilities, offer experiential learning opportunities intertwined with storytelling elements like a baking barn, space farm, and vertical forest.
Blurring Boundaries between Play and Learning
Cloud Kindergarten blurs the boundaries between play and learning, fostering an environment where children can discover, extend, and learn through experience. Shaped and dimly lit spaces create immersive environments linked by narratives, encouraging exploration and creativity. The design intentionally blurs distinctions between play areas and educational spaces, facilitating holistic development through hands-on engagement.
Classroom as a Home
Classrooms within Cloud Kindergarten transcend traditional layouts, embodying the essence of “home” rather than segmented activity rooms. Infused with elements reminiscent of a cozy domestic environment – such as bread tile flooring, warm-toned bathrooms, and inviting furniture – each classroom exudes a sense of warmth and familiarity. Open-plan layouts with freely arranged activity spaces visible through windows encourage individual expression while fostering a sense of belonging.
Conclusion: A Nexus of Innovation and Education
Cloud Kindergarten of LuxeLakes reimagines early learning environments as dynamic spaces where creativity, exploration, and community converge. By embracing innovative design concepts and prioritizing experiential learning, TEKTONN ARCHITECTS has created a nurturing educational environment that inspires young minds and cultivates a lifelong love for learning.
